Residents of a Lambani Tanda in Ramdurg, Belagavi district, have raised concerns about an anganwadi worker allegedly being involved in the unlawful conversion of Hindus to Christianity. The villagers organized a protest in the community, displaying posters of Guru Seva Lal and voicing their grievances against the implicated worker.
In a formal complaint addressed to Child Development Project Officer Shankar Kambar, residents accused Sumitra Lamani, the anganwadi worker in Obalapura village, of enticing Lambani community members into converting to Christianity through the offer of goods and money. Additionally, the memorandum highlighted her purported negligence in carrying out her responsibilities, citing lapses in the distribution of food and essential supplies to children and new mothers.
Residents further alleged that the worker frequently takes unauthorized leaves throughout the week. They disclosed that approximately 25 families from a nearby tanda had reportedly converted to Christianity over two decades ago. However, the community became aware of this only when Christmas celebrations took place in the converted households. The situation has stirred tension within the Lambani Tanda, prompting the residents to seek official intervention to address the alleged malpractices.
