Belagavi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Roshan has instructed the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to enforce fixed fares for auto-rickshaws in the city, ensuring passengers are not overcharged. He emphasized the need for a structured fare system, including minimum, maximum, and nighttime rates, to maintain fair pricing.
To enhance transparency, he directed that fare charts be prominently displayed at key locations like the Central Bus Terminus (CBT), railway station, major bus stands, and roundabouts, allowing commuters to verify fares.
Traffic Management and CCTV Surveillance
Chairing the District Road Safety Committee meeting on March 6, DC Roshan addressed urban traffic concerns, particularly congestion in areas near the Library and Zilla Panchayat office. He proposed designating parking spaces, revising one-way traffic routes, and clearing unauthorized parking near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Regional Commissioner’s office, and Zilla Panchayat premises.
During the meeting, it was revealed that seven CCTV cameras in Shahpur, Udyambag, and Tilakwadi were non-functional. He instructed Smart City officials to restore them immediately and ensure all cameras within city limits operate continuously. Additional surveillance cameras will be installed where necessary, and accident-prone zones will be marked with cautionary signage.
Enhancing Road Safety Measures
Focusing on accident-prone areas, DC Roshan called for cautionary signboards at high-risk zones, urging motorists to reduce speed. He also stressed the importance of timely road repairs and public awareness campaigns to improve road safety.
Strict Traffic Law Enforcement
Belagavi City Police Commissioner Iada Martin highlighted the urgency of identifying high-risk roads and strictly implementing one-way traffic regulations. He pointed out widespread traffic violations and called for stricter enforcement of road safety laws to enhance commuter safety in the city.
