Belgaum Honors Kargil Heroes with Joint Tree Plantation and Car Rally

The Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre and the Rotary Club, Belgaum, collaborated on Thursday for a joint tree plantation initiative under the Green Belgaum Project. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation.

The event saw the enthusiastic participation of 50 students from BK Model High School, 65 Army personnel, and 13 Rotarians, all contributing to a greener future. This collective effort aims to plant over 1,000 trees.

This collaboration between the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre and the Rotary Club underscores the value of community involvement in preserving the environment. It encourages individuals to take proactive steps to make a meaningful difference.

According to a statement, the Indian Army remains committed to initiatives that promote sustainability and environmentally friendly practices.

Brigadier Joydip Mukherjee, serving as the Commandant of MLIRC, along with Rotary District Governor Sharad Pai and other dignitaries, attended the event. Brigadier Mukherjee also flagged in the Mahindra Car Rally held at the Sharqat War Memorial in the Military Camp area here.

The car rally took place in Belgaum to mark the 25th anniversary of the Indian Army’s triumph in the Kargil War, held on Thursday. The team, led by Captain (retired) Utpal Datta, commenced its journey from Kochi with nine members and seven support staff. Their route spans 4,000 km, passing through Delhi en route to Drass, their final destination.

The rally aims to honor the brave soldiers of the Kargil War and raise awareness about this historic event. It will travel through various cities, towns, and villages, spreading messages of patriotism and sacrifice.

The journey will conclude at Drass, where homage will be paid to the Kargil War heroes. The event included an emotional ceremony where boxes containing thank-you messages from citizens were exchanged.

This gesture was meant to recognize the immense contributions and sacrifices of the Indian Army, honoring their courage and dedication to the nation. The messages conveyed gratitude for their service.

The ceremony at the Sharqat War Memorial was solemn, with the Commandant wishing the team a safe and successful journey, a fitting tribute to the heroes of Kargil. The rally was then flagged off for its next destination, according to a statement.
