Two weeks after its grand inauguration, the newly built City Bus Terminal (CBT) in Belagavi remains non-operational, causing inconvenience to commuters. Situated next to the central bus terminal, the new facility was intended to replace the old, overcrowded terminal that lacked basic amenities. The previous structure was demolished, and construction began in 2018. The project was completed in 2025 and inaugurated by the chief minister on October 4.
Currently, only a section of the Central Bus Terminal is being used for city and suburban services, with around 150 buses operating daily. The temporary arrangement lacks proper platforms, lighting, shelter, and clean drinking water, posing difficulties for passengers.
The new terminal features modern infrastructure, including a three-storey building, 28 bus bays, comfortable seating, ticket counters, dedicated restrooms for women, lifts, and escalators.
NWKRTC divisional controller K.L. Gudennavar stated, “The new CBT has not yet been officially handed over to us. We are currently operating from the central bus terminal, and services will shift once the handover is complete.”
Belagavi Smart City Limited MD Shubha B said, “The terminal has been inaugurated, and final inspections are underway to ensure all facilities are functioning properly before handing it over to the transport department. The process will not be delayed further.”
Meanwhile, Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar criticized the premature inauguration, questioning, “What was the hurry to inaugurate the facility when the handover process is still pending?”
