Municipal employees in Belagavi have alleged that they were assaulted and their JCB equipment damaged while clearing encroachments on a footpath at Nathpai Circle in Shahapur on Friday. The incident occurred when staff members arrived to remove unauthorized structures from the pedestrian walkway, at which point unidentified individuals attacked them and shattered the glass of the heavy machinery used for the operation.
Following the attack, municipal council members and employees gathered in front of the Shahapur Police Station to demand strict action against the perpetrators. Kartik M., the Municipal Commissioner, stated that an Assistant Executive Engineer was injured during the assault, though the identities of the attackers remain unknown. He confirmed that the police at Shahapur station have been informed to investigate the matter and take appropriate steps.
City Police Commissioner Prakash Nikkam assured that an investigation will be launched based on the complaint filed by the municipal staff. He further stated that legal action will be taken against those found responsible for the violence.
