The district administration has appealed to residents to use LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel and other fuels responsibly in view of supply issues linked to the West Asia conflict.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan assured that there is no shortage of fuel in the district, but cautioned people against hoarding.
Speaking to reporters in Belagavi on Tuesday (March 24), he said the district normally consumes about 25,000 domestic LPG cylinders per day, while current supply stands at 20,000 to 22,000 cylinders daily. “The situation is likely to improve soon. People should not panic or make unnecessary additional bookings,” he said, adding that storing cylinders, petrol or diesel is not only unnecessary but also risky.
He further stated that Belagavi city has around 35,000 PNG connections, covering both residential and commercial users. Consumers have been advised to use fuel judiciously and limit consumption to 60%.
“The district requires about 1,600 commercial cylinders daily, but only around 600 are currently available. A meeting was held with the hotel owners’ association, after which oil companies have started supplying cylinders based on demand. Officials have also seized 42 domestic cylinders being misused for commercial purposes,” he said.
Roshan reiterated that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the district. “There are 560 petrol stations across the district, including about 50 in Belagavi city. Fuel is supplied from three depots, and if any city station runs dry, arrangements are in place to replenish stocks within five hours,” he added.
