A young Indian Army officer died after suffering a heart attack while swimming in Belagavi on Sunday.
Lieutenant Amit Singh, an officer of the MLIRC and a native of Haryana, had gone for a swim at the Commando Wing Army Camp in Nanawadi, where he reportedly experienced sudden discomfort and collapsed in the pool.
Lifeguard Pradeep Kumar and others pulled him out, administered first aid, and rushed him to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was declared brought dead.
Lieutenant Singh was commissioned into the Madras Regiment and was undergoing a commando course at the Commando School in Belagavi, one of the Indian Army’s most demanding training centres under the Junior Leaders Wing of the Infantry School.
A graduate of the 145th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), he is believed to be from Jhajjar in Haryana.
Officers from the Tilakwadi Police Station visited the hospital.
His untimely demise has drawn condolences from military and veteran communities, who remembered his dedication and described his passing as a significant loss to his family, unit, and the armed forces.
