Belagavi Sambra Airport declared drone ‘Red Zone’, flying banned within 8 km. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has declared an 8-kilometre radius around Sambra Airport in Belagavi as a ‘Red Zone’, prohibiting the operation of drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the area.
According to DGCA guidelines, the airspace within an 8-km radius from the centre of the airport has been designated as a restricted zone. As a result, private individuals, photographers, and companies are not permitted to fly drones in this area without prior authorisation. The restriction has been imposed to prevent any disturbance to aircraft operations and to ensure airport security.
Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase issued a press statement warning the public against violating the rule. He said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found flying drones in the restricted zone. “Illegal drone operations will lead to seizure of the equipment and the filing of a criminal case,” he said.
Under the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s drone regulations, sensitive locations such as airports are classified as Red Zones. Flying drones in these areas requires special approval from the central government. Using drones for weddings, events, or personal photography within the restricted 8-km radius is considered a serious offence under aviation safety regulations.
Officials also stated that the restriction comes amid heightened security concerns following the Iran–Israel conflict. As a precautionary measure, the airport and its surrounding airspace have been placed under tighter surveillance.
The police have urged residents living near the airport and people in the city to follow the regulations and cooperate with security authorities. Sambra Airport not only handles passenger flights but also serves as a training facility for the Air Force.
