A shocking incident has been reported from Belagavi, where a lorry driver was attacked while his vehicle was still in motion, allegedly in retaliation for a road accident. The seriously injured driver has been admitted to a hospital and is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU. In a separate incident in Yadgir, a mother and son were reportedly attacked over a WhatsApp status related to a saffron flag.
The attack on the lorry driver occurred near Shankarananda Putthali on Club Road in Belagavi city. The victim, identified as Ayaz Savanoor (36), a resident of Rukmini Nagar, was allegedly assaulted by a group of eight people. Sources said the incident stemmed from an accident near Hindalaga, after which the attackers followed the lorry and did not allow it to stop.
The assailants reportedly stabbed Ayaz on his thigh, ear, back, and head with knives, hurled stones at the vehicle, shattered its glass, and created panic. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he remains in the ICU with serious injuries.
Belagavi police, along with a SOCO team, visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Camp Police Station.
