Karnataka ₹400 Crore Cash Robbery: Viral Audio Triggers Probe in Belagavi

New ‘Locked House Beat System’ Launched by Belagavi Police to Prevent Burglaries

A viral audio clip allegedly linked to the ₹400 crore Karnataka–Goa cash robbery has surfaced in Belagavi, prompting an investigation into its authenticity. The recording, which is doing the rounds on social media, is said to contain details about the transport and disappearance of the stolen money. Police and investigators are examining the clip and closely monitoring its circulation.

Belagavi has been abuzz after the audio, purportedly involving a businessman and an accused in the high-profile robbery case on the Karnataka–Goa border, went viral. It reportedly discusses how the cash was moved and later went missing.

It is learnt that the complainant, along with police personnel, has submitted audio recordings, videos and other digital files to senior police officials. These files are said to include alleged conversations between the complainant, a Thane-based businessman and a Gujarat-based hawala operator, which could aid the ongoing investigation. In one recording, the hawala operator is heard telling a Nashik police officer that he would try to mediate between the businessman and an ashram. While he claims the ashram had no direct role in the robbery, the complaint suggests that the audio indicates the ashram has been involved in black money dealings for many years, raising questions about its financial activities.

The viral audio reportedly also contains discussions about how the stolen money was transported, its subsequent disappearance and the roles of those involved. One person is heard taking full responsibility for moving the cash and instructing associates, who have since gone missing. The current whereabouts of the money remain unknown. The conversation further alludes to the involvement of an influential politician from Gujarat, claiming they are aware of the matter. However, there is no independent verification of these claims. The conversation is primarily in Marathi.

Meanwhile, District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi described the ₹400 crore robbery case as mysterious and confusing. Speaking to reporters in Belgaum, he referred to the alleged hijacking of a container travelling from Goa to Maharashtra at Chorla Ghat in Khanapur taluk and said the case has taken a troubling turn. He noted that although the robbery is said to have occurred on October 16, 2025, it came to light much later.

Jarkiholi said the Maharashtra Police has not shared any official information with Karnataka Police so far, which has added to the confusion. He pointed out that it is unclear whether the place of the robbery falls under Maharashtra, Goa or Karnataka, and questioned how an investigation could proceed when even the location is uncertain. He added that if Maharashtra Police seeks cooperation, Karnataka Police will extend full support, and if a complaint is filed, Karnataka Police is ready to investigate.

Expressing anger over Maharashtra Chief Minister’s allegation that the ₹400 crore belonged to the Congress, Jarkiholi asked, “Who counted the money and said there was ₹400 crore there?”
