Malamaruti police arrested two men and seized illegal firearms, live ammunition, and other materials during a late-night operation on National Highway-48 near KLE Cross on Sunday. The accused were identified as Ravindra Kuntinath Nayak (37) and Shahid Raisahammad Patel (21), both residents of Anganur in Sangli district, Maharashtra. According to a police press release, the operation was carried out around 12.15 am based on specific intelligence.
The duo was travelling from Kolhapur towards Dharwad and had parked their car by the roadside when a police team intercepted the vehicle. A search led to the recovery of pistols and ammunition hidden in a black bag. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Market ACP Santosh Satyanayak and the guidance of Malamaruti inspector BR Gaddakar. The raid was led by PSI Honnappa Talawara along with his staff. Police seized two country-made pistols, four live rounds, an 8 GB memory card, 25 SIM cards, a mobile phone, and the car, collectively valued at Rs 9 lakh.
A case has been registered at Malamaruti police station under Sections 61(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Sections 25(1A) and 29(a) and (b) of the Indian Arms Act, 1959. Further investigation is underway. City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase appreciated the efforts of the officers and staff involved in the operation.
