A young woman was strangled to death after repeatedly complaining that she had not conceived even after three years of marriage. The incident occurred in Neginahal village of Bailhongal taluk in Belagavi district.
The deceased, Rajeshwari (21), was allegedly murdered by her husband, Fakirappa Gilakka. After the incident, he reportedly tried to pass it off as a heart attack.
Sources said Rajeshwari had been upset over not having children even after three years of marriage and often raised the issue. On the day of the incident, an argument broke out, and in a fit of anger, the husband allegedly strangled her to death. He later informed relatives, claiming that his wife had died of a heart attack.
However, Rajeshwari’s parents grew suspicious after noticing marks on her neck during the funeral. They immediately informed the Bailhongal police. When the police visited the spot and conducted an inspection, it was confirmed to be a case of murder.
The accused, Fakirappa Gilakka, was taken into custody and brought to the police station. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and was later sent to Hindalaga jail.
Meanwhile, the body was sent to Belgaum BRIMS for postmortem. The preliminary report confirmed that it was a murder. Rajeshwari’s body was later handed over to her family members.
