Rangayana, Shivamogga artistes will stage the Kannada play Nammolagobba Gandhi in Belagavi on January 21 at Kannada Bhavan at 6.30 p.m. The entry will be free for the public.
The play has been directed by Chidambar Rao Jambe and is based on a script written by Dadasaheb S. Chougale. Omkar Meghalakapur is the associate director, while music has been composed by Raghav Kammar.
Nammolagobba Gandhi seeks to recreate the atmosphere of the pre-Independence era. It portrays a village preparing to welcome Mahatma Gandhi for an anti-British protest. The story also reflects how certain villagers, including the Shanubhog, the village head, support the British rulers and highlights various social issues of the time.
Karnataka PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi and KLE Society Chairperson Prabhakar Kore are among the dignitaries expected to attend the performance.
