Police have registered a case against Athani Congress MLA Laxman Savadi, his son Chidanand Savadi, and six others in connection with an alleged assault on Ningappa Karennavar, president of the BDCC Bank Employees’ Union.
According to police, Karennavar filed a complaint with the Athani police while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Belagavi. He alleged that he was summoned to a house, verbally abused with obscene language, and assaulted.
In his statement, Karennavar claimed that MLA Laxman Savadi slapped him on the cheek, while his son Chidanand Savadi allegedly kicked him on the waist. He further alleged that after he fell to the ground, he was attacked by seven to eight persons.
Based on the complaint, police have booked the accused for unlawful assembly, assault, attempt to cause grievous hurt, criminal intimidation, and use of obscene language under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 115(2), 351(2), 352(2), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
