The State government will implement several drinking water projects in Belagavi district at a total cost of ₹1,000 crore, Urban Development and Town Planning Minister Byrathi Suresh said in Belagavi on Wednesday.
He said most of the funds have already been sanctioned, and the work is underway. The Minister added that the Urban Development Department has released ₹13,500 crore over the past year to ensure safe drinking water and drainage facilities across Karnataka, with projects progressing at different stages.
He was speaking after inaugurating a 24×7 drinking water project in Mutyanatti on the outskirts of Belagavi. The five-lakh-litre capacity plant will supply water to rural areas in north Belagavi. Residents of Mutyanatti, Kakati, and neighbouring villages had long faced drinking water shortages, but the new facility will ensure a continuous water supply to every household, offering a permanent solution, he said.
Suresh noted that KUIDFC, the Belagavi city corporation, World Bank–supported KUWSMP, and other agencies are involved in the project.
“The government under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is committed to resolving the district’s drinking water issues, and all necessary steps have been taken to provide water supply, drainage, and essential infrastructure to poor and middle-class families,” he said.
MLA Asif (Raju) Seth, KUIDFC president Narayanaswamy, Mayor Mangesh Pawar, Deputy Mayor Vani Joshi, Urban Development Department Secretary Deepa Cholan, CCB commissioner M. Karthik, and others attended the event.
