Hirebagewadi police on Friday arrested a youth from Alnavar and recovered four stolen motorcycles worth around ₹2.7 lakh. With vehicle thefts rising in Belagavi, the Belagavi City Police conducted a major operation on Thursday, leading to the arrest and recovery of bikes stolen from different locations.
The accused has been identified as Ajay alias Ajit Basavaraj Bhajantri, 19, a resident of Alanavar in Dharwad district. Four motorcycles reported stolen were seized from his possession.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase, Deputy Commissioners Narayan Bharamani and Niranjan Raje Urs, and ACP B.M. Gangadhar of the Belagavi Rural sub-division.
A team led by Hirebagewadi Police Inspector S.K. Holennavar apprehended the accused, who was moving around suspiciously with a stolen bike. During detailed interrogation, the police found he was involved in thefts at Allavar Vishnu Lodge, Dharwad New Bus Stand, and the Kittur Chennamma Circle areas.
Motorcycles valued at about ₹2.7 lakh from various manufacturers were recovered. The Police Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the special operation team comprising PSIs Avinash Yaragoppa, B.K. Mitagar, M.I. Turamari, Gurusidda Panjim Manikabar, and Mahantesh Kadannavar Kelaginamani.
