A 59-year-old two-wheeler rider died after a tipper truck rammed into him from behind on the Belgaum–Vengurla road near Sulga on Wednesday, around 1:30 pm. The deceased has been identified as Khalid Dastgir Tashildar, a resident of Sainagar, Uchgaon.
According to initial information, Khalid was riding from Uchgaon towards Belgaum when a speeding tipper struck his bike from behind near Sulga. The impact caused him to fall under the truck’s rear wheel, resulting in severe injuries. He was being taken to the district hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries en route.
Kakati police reached the spot, conducted the panchnama, and handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. Khalid is survived by his wife, son, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.
The Belgaum–Vengurla road is currently dug up for construction work, leading to erratic driving and vehicles attempting to avoid potholes. It is believed that this situation contributed to the tipper hitting the biker.
