A 22-year-old woman from Mali Galli lost her life at the Belagavi Civil Hospital on Monday, nearly two weeks after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident reportedly caused by stray dogs near the railway station.
The victim, identified as Aishwarya Narayan Badmanji, was riding her two-wheeler on October 21 when a pack of dogs suddenly ran across the road. While trying to avoid hitting them, she lost control of the vehicle and fell, sustaining severe head and body injuries.
Aishwarya was first admitted to a private hospital and treated for several days before her condition deteriorated. She was later shifted to the Belagavi Civil Hospital on October 31, where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday afternoon.
Living with her aunt, brother, and sister in Mali Galli, Aishwarya’s death has left the locality in shock. Residents have voiced concern over the increasing stray dog menace in crowded parts of the city.
The Traffic South Division Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Meanwhile, citizens and social organisations have urged the Belagavi City Corporation to take swift and effective action to curb the stray dog population and prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
