The 133rd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Belagavi was recently observed with various programmes.
The spiritual leader had arrived in Belagavi from Kolhapur on October 16, 1892, and stayed for 12 days while seeking support for his forthcoming tour to the United States. During his stay, he was hosted by Sadashiv Bhate in Risaldar Galli and by ICS officer Haripada Mitra at the Belgaum Fort.
To commemorate the occasion, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram held several events at the Swami Vivekananda Memorial in Risaldar Galli. A Hindi monologue titled “Maryada Purushottam Ram” by Damodar Ramdasi was performed, followed by a Maha Prasad.
Items used by Swamiji, including his stick, mirror, and bed, have been preserved at the site. An exhibition of paintings depicting his life was also displayed, and the evening concluded with bhajans and kirtans, according to a release.
