Belagavi police have intensified their drive against the sale and use of dangerous manja, kite strings coated with glass powder or metal, that endanger citizens and motorists. Acting on directives to curb such risks, raids were conducted within the Market and APMC police station limits.
During the operation, banned manja rolls were seized from two shops owned by Farooq Ahmed Gulab Ahmed Mulla (75) and Jamir Kulluddin Kashnati of Vaibhav Nagar. Cases have been filed against both under relevant sections of the Karnataka Police (K.P.) Act, and further legal proceedings are in progress.
Officials have cautioned shopkeepers against storing or selling such hazardous materials and urged parents to prevent children from using dangerous manja while kite flying.
