A Railway Protection Force (RPF) head constable, C.I. Koppad, is being widely praised for his quick action in rescuing an elderly man who fell from a moving train at Belagavi railway station on Saturday.
The incident involved Bharama Gangaram Kumbar (55), a resident of Basurate village in Belagavi taluk. According to railway police, Bharama had come to see off his grandson, Laxmi Rajaram Kumbar, who was travelling from Belagavi to Pune by train No. 16210 MYS–AII Express. While deboarding the sleeper coach after the train began moving, Bharama lost his balance and slipped, falling dangerously close to the gap between the platform and the train.
Head Constable Koppad, who was on duty at the time, noticed the fall and reacted instantly. Displaying remarkable presence of mind, he rushed to the spot and pulled Bharama away from the moving train, preventing a fatal accident. The passenger sustained minor injuries and was given immediate first aid.
The dramatic rescue, captured on video, quickly went viral on social media. Netizens and bystanders alike have hailed the constable’s alertness and courage, calling him a real-life hero in uniform.
