Two pedestrians lost their lives in a tragic accident near Kumbharda village on the Ramnagar–Dharwad road early Thursday (Oct 2). The victims were identified as Seema Amar Halankar (24) and Ravlu Bharmani Chaudhary (65), both residents of Kumbharda.
The incident occurred around 6:30 am, about a kilometer from the village. Seema, who was on a morning walk, and Ravlu, heading to his farm, were hit from behind by a speeding, unidentified vehicle. The impact was so severe that both were thrown aside and died instantly.
Driver flees after crash
On receiving information, Khanapur police arrived at the spot and shifted the bodies to the government hospital. The driver fled with the vehicle, and police have launched a search to trace him.
Accident-prone route
Locals said that the Ramnagar–Dharwad road has witnessed several fatal accidents, with at least four deaths reported earlier. Heavy traffic, particularly vehicles bound for Goa from Hubli, Dharwad, and Gadag, moves at high speed, often ignoring nearby village populations. The absence of road shoulders has added to the risk, putting morning walkers and pedestrians in constant danger. Villagers have once again urged authorities to take immediate steps to curb accidents on the route.
