The District CEN Crime Station police on Monday arrested Singadi Hirekodi for cultivating ganja illegally on his father’s farmland in Nidgundi, Raibagh taluk. Officials seized 440 kg of ganja valued at ₹22 lakh.
“Based on a tip-off about ganja being grown amid sugarcane crops in Nidgundi, a raid was carried out and Singadi was taken into custody. He has no prior criminal record, but we are probing his links with suppliers and others involved in the racket,” SP Dr. Bhimashankar Guleda told reporters.
“There are also suspicions of his involvement in other dealings, which are under investigation,” he added.
Constable who nabbed chain snatchers: On September 5, a woman from Mugalakhoda village in Raibagh taluk was waiting for a bus to Sankeshwar after alighting at Raibagh station when two men from Maharashtra, Raju Pakale and Rahula Mali, snatched her gold chain and fled on a bike.
Constable Parashuram Ganigera, who was on bandobast duty at the station, chased the duo for about 2.5 km with the help of locals and caught one of them. The second accused, who had escaped, was later arrested, and a 30-gram gold chain worth ₹2.75 lakh was recovered, SP Guleda said.
