A man fatally stabbed his brother’s wife following a property dispute in Tilakwadi’s Tuesday Market area on Wednesday.
The victim, Geetha Ranjitha Davale Gavali (45), was attacked by her brother-in-law Ganesh Lakshman Davale Gavali (50). Police said Ganesh knocked her down and stabbed her 15 times with a knife during an argument. Geetha, who was rushed to the district hospital with severe injuries, succumbed to excessive bleeding.
Geetha’s husband had passed away eight years ago. Since then, she supported herself by working as a domestic help. She leaves behind a son and a daughter, who were not at home during the incident.
Relatives alleged that Ganesh, involved in illegal liquor trade and under heavy debt, had been pressuring Geetha to either give him ₹5 lakh or transfer the property in his name.
Tilakwadi police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
