A 22-year-old youth was swept away in the Malaprabha river at Yadoga village near Khanapur in Belagavi district on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Shubham Kuppatgeri, was carried away by the current while immersing a Ganesh idol.
Police and NDRF teams have begun a search operation to trace him.
