In a tragic accident on Wednesday night, two persons were killed and nine others injured after a private bus fell off a bridge near Badekolmath in Hirebagewadi, Belagavi taluk, along the Pune–Bengaluru National Highway.
The bus, belonging to Gogate Travels, was on its way from Hubballi to Pune when the mishap occurred. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver’s negligence and reckless driving led to the accident.
There were 12 passengers on board. A man and a woman lost their lives, while the remaining nine sustained injuries. Locals, along with Hirebagewadi police, rushed to the spot, rescued the trapped passengers, and shifted them to BIMS Hospital in Belagavi for treatment.
The incident caused traffic disruption on the busy highway, but police later restored order. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
