A petition demanding the bifurcation of Belagavi district and the creation of a separate Gokak district was submitted to District In-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi on July 19 at 10:30 am.
According to sources, the memorandum was handed over at the minister’s residence office in Hill Garden. The effort was coordinated by the Gokak District Steering Committee, under the leadership of Murugarajendra Swamiji, along with the Gokak Lawyers Association.
The Gokak District Steering Committee had urged representatives from various organizations, associations of Gokak and Mudalagi taluks, social activists, and leaders across political parties to assemble at Sri Basaveshwara Circle near the Gokak Court by 10 am. The call to participate was jointly issued through a press note by senior political leader Ashok Poojary and Gokak Lawyers Association President Subhas Gowda Patil.
