In a startling incident near Ramnagar in Joida taluk, a 49-year-old farmer, Maruti Malekar, sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a wild bear while on his way home.
Sources from the area said the bear launched a sudden attack, causing deep wounds to Malekar’s head and limbs. Despite profuse bleeding and intense pain, the determined farmer managed to walk nearly four kilometres back to his house.
He was later shifted to KLE Hospital in Belagavi, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition remains serious but stable.
The forest department has been alerted, and surveillance has been intensified in the region to track wildlife movement and prevent further incidents.
