A wedding celebration in Karnataka’s Belagavi took a tragic turn when a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed following a dispute over a piece of chicken.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening during a post-wedding dinner hosted at a farmland near Yaragatti town, police confirmed on Monday. The victim, Vinod Malashetti, reportedly got into a heated argument with another guest, Vitthal Harugopp, over the number of chicken pieces being served. The dinner was hosted by newlywed Abhishek Koppad for close friends and well-wishers, according to reports.
Police said the minor disagreement quickly escalated. In a sudden act of rage, Vitthal allegedly stabbed Vinod in the abdomen, resulting in profuse bleeding. Vinod collapsed and succumbed to his injuries before medical help could arrive.
Authorities were alerted shortly after, and a case has been registered. Vitthal Harugopp is in police custody as the investigation continues.
Such incidents stemming from minor quarrels at social gatherings are not new.
In a separate case in Bengaluru’s Bommanahalli, a 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife over a domestic argument.
Police said the accused, Harish B K, allegedly killed his 29-year-old wife, Padmaja Harish, on Sunday evening following a dispute after she returned from shopping. The argument reportedly started because Padmaja had gone out without informing him, which enraged Harish.
During the confrontation, Harish allegedly pushed her to the ground and suffocated her by stepping on her neck, leading to her death on the spot.
The couple, both engineering graduates from Kolar, had been residing and working in Bengaluru for the past five years. A murder case has been registered, and investigations are underway.
