In a significant legal outreach initiative, the District Legal Services Authority, through the Rashtriya Lok Adalat, successfully resolved 16,665 cases across 85 courts in the Belagavi district. A notable highlight was the reconciliation of 24 estranged couples, putting an end to prolonged family disputes.
Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority Secretary Sandeep Patil shared that out of approximately 1.47 lakh pending cases, 25,076 were shortlisted for resolution under this special drive. Many of these cases had been stuck in the system for years and were finally settled, offering long-pending relief to the concerned parties.
The Lok Adalat handled a wide array of cases, including bank loan recoveries, insurance claims, consumer grievances, traffic challans, tax disputes, labor issues, and family matters. In total, 4,62,148 cases, including pre-litigation disputes, were cleared, ensuring prompt justice and significant relief to thousands.
Among the most socially impactful outcomes was the successful reconciliation of 24 couples through judicial counseling. In another emotionally charged case, a father-son conflict was also peacefully resolved.
Financially, the Lok Adalat oversaw settlements amounting to ₹75 crore 2 lakh 7 thousand 154, highlighting its wide-reaching monetary benefit. Many economically weaker sections and farmers were among the beneficiaries, spared from long and expensive legal battles.
Judge Patil remarked that such initiatives not only ease the load on the judiciary but also promote societal harmony by enabling swift and amicable dispute resolution.
