Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has announced a liquor ban across Belagavi city and taluk from 6 PM on Saturday, July 5, to 6 AM on Monday, July 7, 2025, in view of Muharram observances.
The restriction has been imposed as a preventive measure to uphold law and order during the concluding day of Muharram, which is expected to witness large-scale processions within the city. The Commissioner emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring peace and the smooth conduct of religious events.
The ban will be in effect for all liquor-selling outlets, including standalone shops, bars, restaurants, clubs, and wholesale depots. All such establishments must suspend the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages during the specified period.
“This order has been issued to safeguard public safety and communal harmony,” said Commissioner Borase. “Any violations will invite strict legal action,” he added.
Police teams will actively monitor compliance across Belagavi and its taluks to ensure strict enforcement of the directive.
This temporary restriction is in line with standard protocols followed during major religious occasions to foster peace and cultural respect. Citizens are requested to cooperate with authorities for the dignified observance of Muharram in the city.
