The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) will confer honorary doctorates on V. Narayanan, Chairman of ISRO and Secretary, Department of Space; Prashant Prakash, founder of Excel India; and C.S. Sunder Raju, Chancellor of Atria University, Bengaluru.
Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot will present these honorary Doctor of Science degrees during the university’s Convocation-1, scheduled for July 4 at the VTU campus in Belagavi. The Governor will also award undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and research degrees, along with integrated dual degrees.
Ajay Kumar Sood, Padma Shri awardee and Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, will deliver the convocation address as the chief guest. Karnataka Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar will also be in attendance.
More than 60,600 degrees, including B.Tech, B.Plan, B.Arch, B.Sc. Honours, research, PhD, and integrated dual degrees, will be distributed. Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar, Registrar (Evaluation) T.N. Sreenivasa, and other university officials briefed the press on the arrangements.
Speaking at a press conference in Belagavi on Tuesday (July 1), Mr. Vidyashankar highlighted VTU’s initiatives to strengthen international academic collaboration. “VTU has undertaken measures to support faculty and student exchange, as well as research and teaching partnerships with leading global institutions. Our aim is to position Karnataka as a preferred global education destination,” he said.
He further added that VTU’s alignment of academic schedules with the international calendar will ease the overseas admission process for students. “To prevent delays in awarding degree certificates, which are often required during job joining formalities, VTU has planned to hold two convocations annually since 2023,” he said.
