CITU has alleged that several gram panchayats in Karnataka’s Belagavi district have not cleared wages of contract workers for nearly seven months.
In a memorandum submitted to Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde on June 24, CITU claimed that Grama Mitra and Kayaka Mitra workers had not received their monthly honorarium for an extended period.
“There are around 250 affected workers, most of them women. Each is assigned MGNREGA responsibilities across two gram panchayats and is entitled to ₹12,250 per month. The delay in payments has caused significant distress, and immediate intervention is needed,” said Manda Navagi, CITU convenor.
CEO Rahul Shinde assured the delegation that the issue would be looked into.
