Five individuals, including two minors, have been detained near Belagavi for allegedly exploiting a 15-year-old girl and using a video recording to threaten her over an extended period.
According to police, the incident took place a few months ago in a village near Belagavi. The girl was taken to a remote location by a group of six individuals, where the act was recorded on a mobile phone. The video was later allegedly used to intimidate her, leading to repeated harassment.
Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase stated on Sunday, June 1, 2025, that both the girl and the accused are from the same area. The survivor recently informed her parents, following which a complaint was registered at the APMC Police Station. In a swift operation between Saturday evening and Sunday noon, five of the six individuals were detained. Efforts to trace the sixth person are ongoing.
A case has been filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The investigation continues.
This incident comes just three weeks after another case on the outskirts of Belagavi, where three individuals, including two minors and the son of a police officer, were detained following a complaint involving a different minor.
