A three-year-old girl lost her life after a wall of her house collapsed during heavy rain in Mahalingeshwar Colony, Gokak town, Belagavi district, early Monday morning.
The child, identified as Keerthila (or Keerti) Nagesh Poojari (also referred to as Patil), was asleep with her four-year-old sister when the rear wall of their house gave way due to the downpour. The collapse killed Keerthila on the spot and injured her sister, who managed to run to her parents in another room. The parents were unharmed.
The injured girl has been admitted to a nearby hospital. Police from Gokak Town Station visited the site and shifted the body to the Gokak Government Hospital mortuary. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Belagavi and Dharwad, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong winds.
