A young man from Athani taluk, Shivanand Siddappa Billur, has won widespread appreciation for his integrity after returning a gold chain worth ₹3 lakh to its rightful owner during the Appaiah Swami and Chandraiah Swamiji Rathotsava held in Jhunjarwad village.
During the grand chariot festival, Shweta Singh from Bengaluru lost a 30-gram gold chain amidst the crowd. In a time when gold prices continue to soar, the loss left Shweta and her husband Vikram Singh deeply distressed.
However, what could have been a permanent loss turned into a heartwarming display of honesty. Shivanand found the chain and, rather than keeping it, ensured its safety and made a public announcement through a loudspeaker at the festival’s main stage. He invited the rightful owner to come forward with evidence, stating the chain would be returned in the presence of village elders.
Responding to the announcement, Vikram and Shweta Singh approached the village leaders with a photo and proof of the chain’s weight. After verification, the gold chain was returned to them, drawing admiration from the gathering.
The couple expressed heartfelt thanks to Shivanand and the village elders, remarking, “It is because of such honest individuals that faith in society remains alive.” The incident has since been widely appreciated across the village.
This act of integrity by Shivanand Siddappa Billur not only made the chariot festival memorable but also served as a powerful reminder of the enduring values of honesty and humanity.
