Three additional arrests have been made in the gangrape case of a minor girl in Belagavi’s Tilakwadi area, taking the total number of accused in custody to five. The incident has triggered widespread anger in the city, raising serious questions about child protection, law enforcement, and unregulated hospitality businesses.
Those newly arrested include Rohan Patil and Ashutosh Patil, accused of running an illegal resort where the incident reportedly occurred, along with the minor son of a Circle Police Inspector (CPI) from another district.
Investigations revealed that the accused had rented a house for ₹20,000 per month and illegally turned it into a resort without securing the required approvals or licenses.
The two adult suspects have been remanded to Hindalga Central Jail, while the CPI’s minor son has been placed in a government-run remand home.
The case is being investigated by the Belagavi Market Police Station. Authorities are expected to widen the probe to examine administrative lapses that may have enabled the illegal resort to function.
