Belagavi Rural Police have taken four individuals into custody in connection with a case involving alleged attempts to hurt religious sentiments in Santibastwad village. The incident, originally reported in April, resurfaced during an investigation into a recent case involving the desecration of religious texts in the same area.
City Police Commissioner Iada Martin confirmed on Thursday that the arrests relate to an incident reported on April 12. As per the complaint lodged by Mahmudgaussab Tehsildar, objectionable messages were found and vandalism was reported at a local place of worship in Santibastwad, which reportedly disturbed the community. The damage was discovered around 7:30 AM on April 13.
The individuals arrested have been identified as Laxman Yallappa Uchwade (30), Muttappa Bharma Uchwade (26), Laxman Nagappa Nayak (30), and Shivraj Yallappa Guddi (29), all residents of the same village.
A case has been filed under relevant sections pertaining to offences related to religious sentiments. The Belagavi Rural Police continue to investigate the matter to uncover any further connections or involvement.
