The State Cabinet has sanctioned ₹10.44 crore for the construction of a new fire station in Belagavi city, a crucial step to enhance emergency response services in the growing urban area.
As Belagavi continues to expand both in population and area, the existing fire services have struggled to manage the increasing number of fire-related incidents. Currently, the city and surrounding taluka are served by a single fire station, which also houses the office of the Fire District Officer.
The city’s infrastructure, particularly in Belagavi North and South, suffers from narrow lanes and heavy traffic, often leading to delays in emergency responses. These delays have resulted in higher damages during recent fire incidents.
Belagavi, comprising three assembly constituencies and surrounded by densely populated villages, has seen little development in fire service infrastructure in recent years, with the only other fire station located near Suvarna Soudha in Halga.
Officials suggest that the new fire station is likely to be located in Belagavi North, where the need is most pressing. However, the exact location is still to be determined. With the funding now approved, construction is expected to begin soon.
