Belagavi’s daughter-in-law, Colonel Sofia Qureshi, has made her family proud with the successful briefing on Operation Sindoor, highlighting the Indian Army’s counter-attack on terrorist camps in Pakistan.
Her father-in-law, Gous Sab Bagewadi, expressed immense pride in Sofia’s detailed explanation of the operation and her role in the country’s security efforts. The press briefing, conducted by Col Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, underlined the growing strength and presence of women in India’s armed forces. Both officers clearly presented the retaliatory action by Indian forces following the terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 Indian lives.
Commissioned in 1999, Col Qureshi brings over 30 years of distinguished service, known for her fearless approach and unwavering dedication. Her notable career includes a key role in the 2006 Congo peacekeeping mission, where she represented India with distinction.
Originally from Baroda, Sofia is connected to Belagavi through marriage to Col Tajuddin Bagewadi of Konnur village, Gokak taluk. Married since 2015, the couple — both in active service — reflect a powerful story of love, dedication, and patriotism.
While Col Tajuddin is currently stationed in Jhansi, Col Sofia is posted in Jammu. Gous Sab Bagewadi shared that he only learned about Sofia’s media briefing after friends in Konnur informed him. “I switched on the TV only after they told me. Watching her made me immensely proud of both my son and daughter-in-law,” he said.
He added that Sofia frequently visits Konnur and is expected for an upcoming festival. “Whenever they’re here, they always ask for desi chicken and rotis — things they miss while posted in North India,” he said with a smile.
