To curb the trend of summer migration, Belagavi Zilla Panchayat initiated the Dudiyonu Ba (Come on, Let’s Work) campaign on May 1 across all gram panchayats, aimed at raising awareness about the MGNREGA programme.
The campaign will not only provide general information about the rural employment scheme but also take proactive measures to encourage more workers to apply for jobs. It will guide labourers on how to apply for work and claim wages. Officers will also identify families not registered under the scheme and ensure their inclusion for unskilled work opportunities.
The goal is to secure 100 days of work for all registered unskilled labourers, thereby reducing seasonal migration. Special attention will be given to underrepresented groups, including women, disabled individuals, and gender minorities.
The MGNREGA programme details can be accessed at local gram panchayat offices.
Health camps are being held for all workers currently employed under the scheme, and a job card verification campaign is underway. Officials will visit homes to update the registered labourers’ list, ensuring the correct names are added or removed from the records.
