A man from Elapatti village in Gokak taluk has been accused of murdering his wife’s sister at a residence in Khanagaon village.
The deceased has been identified as Sujatha Manjunath Chatrakoti (24), a native of Madamageri in Savadatti taluk. The accused is Bangareppa Iraiya.
According to Gokak Rural Police, Bangareppa allegedly pressured Sujatha, who was married, to engage in an illicit relationship. When she refused, he verbally abused her on Saturday and later attacked her with a sharp weapon, stabbing her in the chest and stomach. Sujatha was rushed to the district hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Sunday.
Sujatha had been residing with her family in Khanagaon for the past few months. A complaint has been filed by her husband, and police investigations are underway.
