In a tragic incident on Sunday, an ambulance driver attached to a private hospital ended his life in Shahapur, allegedly due to non-payment of salary. The deceased has been identified as Omkar Powar, 25.
According to police, Omkar, who was residing in a rented house in Shahapur, died by hanging. A death note recovered from the scene accuses the hospital management of not paying his salary, which he cited as the reason for his drastic action.
An employee of the hospital has been detained for questioning, officials confirmed.
Omkar, who was married four years ago, is survived by his wife and a young son. His post-mortem was conducted at BIMS Hospital.
Omkar’s family and members of the Ambulance Drivers’ Association expressed anger over the hospital administration’s failure to visit the scene. Family members held the hospital staff accountable for the incident.
Krishna Powar, a relative, said the death note mentioned Omkar had not received his salary for the past four to five months and was under financial stress. He urged the police to probe the matter thoroughly and take action against those responsible.
Shahapur police have registered a case and begun investigations.
