Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar has welcomed the approval of ₹100 crore for the development of the sacred Shabari Kolla site in Ramdurg taluk, Belagavi district. The funding comes under Part-III of the “Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2024-25,” aimed at elevating iconic tourist destinations to international standards.
Shettar revealed that this milestone follows his request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2025. Following the appeal, the Prime Minister’s Office instructed the State Tourism Department to move forward with the development without delay.
Shabari Kolla is believed to be the revered spot where Shabari awaited Lord Rama’s arrival, eventually welcoming him and offering him fruit. The site’s spiritual and historical value has drawn renewed attention following the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, leading to increased interest among pilgrims. There has been a growing demand to transform the area into a major spiritual and tourism hub.
Acting on these developments, the Tourism Department’s Under-Secretary and Director have been directed to proceed with further steps, including leveraging central schemes like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and SASC.
In a press statement, Shettar confirmed the state government’s commitment to enhancing Shabari Kolla as a key spiritual and tourist destination in the coming times.
