Belagavi District police successfully rescued a kidnapped real estate businessman and arrested four individuals involved in the crime. The accused were brought before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled stated that the victim, Basavaraj Ambi, was being held on the outskirts of Nipani. A coordinated effort by Ghataprabha and Nipani police led to the swift capture of the kidnappers, identified as Eshwar Ramaganatti, Sachin Kamble, Ramesh Kamble, and Raghavendra Marapura. Authorities suspect that other individuals may be involved and continue their investigation.
Initial findings indicate that the kidnappers believed Basavaraj was involved in illegal activities, assuming he would be reluctant to approach the authorities, making him a prime target for ransom. They initially demanded ₹5 crore but later instructed Basavaraj’s son to bring ₹10 lakh to a specified location. However, when the son appeared with others, the kidnappers fled, followed by another threat call to the family.
The SP confirmed that there was no prior connection between the victim and the suspects. “Thanks to prompt action, all four suspects were arrested within 24 hours of Basavaraj’s wife filing a complaint,” he added.
The police are continuing to investigate and identify additional suspects connected to the case.
