The term of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Belagavi City Corporation concluded on Friday, with the date for electing new leaders still to be announced. The process will begin once the BCC officers compile a voter list, which will include elected BCC members and legislators who are registered voters.
According to the delimitation order, the Mayor’s post remains unreserved, while the Deputy Mayor’s post is reserved for a woman from the general category. In the previous term, the Mayor’s post was reserved for an SC woman, and the Deputy Mayor’s post was unreserved.
The BJP holds a majority with 33 members in the 58-member house. Although 35 BJP candidates were elected, two, Jayant Jadhav and Mangesh Pawar, were disqualified due to a conflict of interest, which will be discussed in the house.
The total number of voters in the house is 65, consisting of 58 elected members and seven legislators, including MPs Jagadish Shettar and Priyanka Jarkiholi, MLC Saibanna Talwar, and MLAs Satish Jarkiholi, Laxmi Hebbalkar, Asif Sait, and Abhay Patil.
