The bodies of four Belagavi residents who perished in the Maha Kumbh Mela stampede in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, will be airlifted to Belagavi this evening. After being transported to Delhi, they are set to depart for Belagavi at 3 PM and are expected to arrive at Sambra Airport by 5:30 PM.
The victims have been identified as Jyoti Hatrarwad (44) and her daughter Megha (24) from Vadagaon, Arun Koparde (61) from Shetti Galli, and Mahadevi Bavanur (48) from Shivaji Nagar. They were among a 13-member group from Belagavi that had traveled to Prayagraj on Sunday.
Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan confirmed the incident, expressing deep sorrow and assuring full administrative support to the bereaved families for the repatriation and final rites.
To oversee the process, Additional Superintendent of Police Shruthi N.S. and Special Deputy Commissioner Harsha Shetty have been designated as nodal officers to coordinate the arrangements.
