Public Works Department Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced on January 26 that the Karnataka government will proceed with the construction of a 5-km flyover in Belagavi if the Union Government fails to provide support.
The proposed flyover aims to connect the national highways linking Karnataka with Maharashtra and Goa. Minister Jarkiholi stated that delays in the project were due to opposition from certain local BJP leaders.
“We presented the proposal to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who agreed to the project and announced funding. However, it has stalled due to resistance from local leaders. Despite repeated appeals, the Centre has not responded positively. If their support doesn’t materialize, we will undertake the project independently,” Jarkiholi told reporters.
