Police have arrested Sapna Rayanna Navi, a resident of Kangrali KH, in connection with the murder of her four-year-old stepdaughter, Samrudhi Rayanna Navi. The incident took place in May 2024, and Sapna was apprehended on Thursday following allegations of torture and assault leading to the child’s death.
Samrudhi, who died on May 20, 2024, had raised suspicions of foul play from her grandfather, Sunil Hampannavar. While Sapna initially denied the accusations, citing the girl’s illness, a postmortem revealed injuries on the child’s stomach as the cause of death.
Sapna, married to CRPF personnel Rayanna Navi after the passing of his first wife, had previously secured anticipatory bail. However, police sought its cancellation, leading to her arrest. The APMC police, who initially registered the case as an unnatural death, are continuing their investigation.
