Two young men lost their lives in a tragic accident near Kakati village in Belagavi taluk after their motorcycle was allegedly struck by an unidentified vehicle, police reported on Wednesday.
The victims, identified as Saksham Patil (20) and Siddharth Patil (23), were residents of Goundagav village. The incident occurred late Tuesday on the National Highway as they were traveling from their village to the Siddheshwar Temple in Kakati.
According to police, the motorcycle was hit from behind by a vehicle, suspected to be a heavy vehicle, which fled the scene immediately after the collision. The impact was so severe that both riders died on the spot, a senior police official confirmed.
A case has been registered at the Kakati Police Station, and an investigation is underway to identify the vehicle and locate the driver responsible for the hit-and-run, officials said.
